Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (180g) chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch (23x23 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Prepare the Brownie Layer: In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients: Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture in the saucepan, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

Spread Brownie Batter: Pour the brownie batter into the bottom of the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.

Prepare the Cookie Layer: In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well blended.

Combine Cookie Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet batter, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Layer the Cookie Dough: Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to gently spread it out, but don’t worry about covering it completely—some brownie should peek through!

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with some moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Cut: Allow the browkies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the parchment overhang to lift them out of the pan. Cut into squares to serve.

Enjoy!: Serve warm for a gooey treat or let them set for a fudgier texture. Perfect with a glass of milk or a scoop of ice cream!
