Ingredients

3 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt), trimmed of excess fat

1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 medium onion, sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup chicken broth

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Optional: buns for serving, coleslaw for topping

Instructions

Prepare the Pork: Start by trimming any excess fat from the pork shoulder. Cut the pork into large chunks, about 3-4 pieces, to help it cook evenly and fit better in the slow cooker.

Mix the Marinade: In a bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, minced garlic, chicken broth, brown sugar, smoked paprika, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.

Layer the Ingredients: Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker to create a bed for the pork. Then, place the pork chunks on top of the onions.

Add the Sauce: Pour the marinade evenly over the pork, ensuring each piece is coated with the delicious sauce mixture.

Cook: Cover the slow cooker and set it on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. The pork should be tender and easy to shred.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.

Combine with Sauce: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it thoroughly with the sauce and onions. Let it sit for an additional 15-20 minutes on low to absorb the flavors.

Serve: For a classic BBQ experience, serve the smoky pulled pork on buns, topped with coleslaw if desired. Enjoy!
