Savory French Onion Beef over Rice: A Comforting Delight

This savory french onion beef over rice: a comforting delight is a simple dinner recipe made with everyday ingredients. Perfect for busy days and family meals.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced

2 large onions, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Caramelize the Onions:

    - In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring frequently for about 20-25 minutes or until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Reduce the heat if they start to brown too quickly.

      Sauté the Garlic:

        - Add the minced garlic to the skillet with the caramelized onions and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

          Cook the Beef:

            - Push the onion and garlic mixture to the side of the skillet. Add the sliced beef sirloin to the center of the skillet, seasoning it with salt and pepper. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the beef is browned all over.

              Create the Sauce:

                - Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and dried thyme. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to slightly thicken.

                  Prepare the Rice:

                    - While the beef and onion mixture is simmering, prepare the rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.

                      Add Cheese:

                        - Once the sauce has thickened, sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the beef mixture in the skillet. Cover and let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                          Serve:

                            - To serve, scoop a generous portion of the cooked rice onto each plate. Top with the savory French onion beef mixture, making sure to include plenty of the melted cheese. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color.
