Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 4-6 lemons
  • 3 cups water divided into two parts
  • 1/2 cup agave syrup or honey for sweetness
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper sliced, seeds removed for less heat
  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • 1 cup ice cubes for serving
  • salt a pinch, to enhance flavor
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice for added citrus flavor

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water with the agave syrup and sliced jalapeño. Heat over medium heat until the mixture begins to simmer, stirring occasionally until the syrup dissolves completely, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the jalapeño-infused syrup cool for about 10 minutes. Once cooled, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl to remove the jalapeño slices.
  • In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice, lime juice, and the remaining 2 cups of cold water. Stir in the cooled jalapeño syrup, and add a pinch of salt to taste.
  • Taste and adjust the sweetness or spice by adding more agave syrup or lime juice if desired. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving.
  • To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the jalapeño lemonade over the ice, and garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

Tip 1: Adjust the amount of jalapeño based on your spice preference.
Tip 2: This lemonade can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Variation: Add a splash of tequila for a spicy margarita twist.
