Ingredients

  • 8 ounces linguine pasta dried
  • 1 pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning preferably homemade or a good quality blend
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream for a rich sauce
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter for sautéing
  • 1 cup chicken broth low sodium
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika adds depth to the flavor
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking the shrimp
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the linguine according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Add the shrimp to the skillet and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  • Add the cooked linguine to the skillet, tossing to coat the pasta evenly in the creamy sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water as needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and let the dish sit for a couple of minutes to meld the flavors before serving.
  • Serve the Fiery Cajun Shrimp Cream Linguine hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley or additional Cajun seasoning if desired.

Notes

Tip 1: For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper when cooking the shrimp.
Tip 2: This dish can be made ahead and reheated; just add a splash of cream when warming up.
Variation: Substitute shrimp with chicken or a mix of seafood for a different flavor profile.
