Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast

3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

1-2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Mix Ingredients: Add the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, remaining sugar, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Stir until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.

Knead Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts. Set aside.

Roll Out Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately 12x18 inches. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar-walnut mixture evenly across the surface.

Form Rolls: Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.

Prepare Baking Pan: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, drizzle the maple syrup and sprinkle with any remaining walnut filling. Arrange the sliced rolls in the dish, cut side up. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake Buns: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Make Glaze: While the buns are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth.

Glaze and Serve: Remove the sticky buns from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns before serving.
