Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

3 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium recommended)

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

2 tablespoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ginger, minced

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon sesame oil

Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Optional: toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes, ideally up to 30 minutes.

Prepare the Broccoli: While the beef is marinating, bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch the broccoli florets for 2 minutes until they are bright green but still crisp. Drain and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer, allowing it to sear without stirring for about 1 minute. Then flip and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if necessary and stir-fry the minced garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Combine Ingredients: Return the beef to the skillet along with the blanched broccoli. Pour in the beef broth, oyster sauce, and the remaining tablespoon of soy sauce. Stir well to combine.

Thicken the Sauce: Mix the remaining 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with a few tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the skillet while stirring, allowing the sauce to thicken for about 2-3 minutes.

Serve: Remove from heat. Serve the delicious beef and broccoli over cooked rice or noodles, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
